The methodological approach adopted, inspired by video-ethnography, is based on a situated, interactional and multimodal perspective. The principle of immersion and collaboration with partners and the use of video provide access to the fine grain of training activity in the workplace. The research is therefore not carried out at a distance from the practices being studied. On the contrary, it requires "direct and close contact with the places and people being observed" (Filliettaz, 2018).
Our approach to analysing interactions is divided into five interdependent phases:
a) presentation of the study to the partners
b) ethnographic observation, negotiation of filming situations and production of films
c) overall pre-analysis of the traces of the interactions collected
d) production of multimodal transcripts based on the recurring themes observed, giving a precise account of the sequential sequence of interactions
e) detailed analysis of the semiotic resources (e.g. verbal, non-verbal, material) deployed by the players in the variety of work and training situations observed.
f) feedback to the players in the form of sharing and co-analysis of the activity carried out.
The data deposited on SwissUbase are essentially transcriptions made on the basis of a collection of video films (172 hrs). 86 hrs in social work institutions and 86 hrs in health services.
The observations were carried out in a total of 14 training placements; 8 in social work institutions and 6 in health services. The audiovisual data collected and deposited are mainly :
a) exploratory research interviews carried out mainly at the beginning of each shoot (e.g. with managers of institutions, training practitioners, etc.).
b) films of work and training situations involving training practitioners, students, team members, patients and users.
c) co-analysis interviews (self-confrontation type) carried out in the presence of pairs of trainer-practitioners and trainees. These interviews are conducted by analysing extracts from films illustrating support practices in which the players are directly involved.
