Zurich Survey of Academics

Ref. 20637

Methoden

Erhebungsmodus

The Zurich Survey of Academics utilizes a cross-sectional, web-based omnibus approach, incorporating various survey techniques to minimize response bias and validate data across different measures. These methods encompass direct questions alongside innovative approaches like behavioral games, factorial surveys and vignettes, single category Implicit Association Tests (SC-IAT), and sensitive questioning techniques such as the Crosswise Model (CM) and the Item Count Technique (ICT). A detailed list and explanation of these methodologies are available in the survey documentation.

Erhebungseinheiten, Grundgesamtheit

The statistical population of this survey is the entire scientific and artistic-scientific staff of universities, colleges, and universities of applied sciences in Austria and Switzerland as well as random half of the entire scientific and artistic-scientific staff of universities and colleges in Germany.

Auswahlverfahren

The target sample consists of a total of 263 institutions. Of these 263 institutions, 15,778 scientific staff completed the majority of the survey, thus forming the final sample. For the representativeness of the data, we compared the composition of our sample with the population of academics in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland according to their academic status group, gender, and discipline groups. For more information on the representativeness, see the methodological report (p. 33f).
