Project aims: A co-operative European development of a standardised screening instrument for children's and adolescent's health related quality of life which can be used in representative national and European health surveys. Identifying children at risk in terms of their subjective health to suggest early intervention possibilities by including the instrument in health services research and health reporting. Work phases: Instrument development: Results of focus group work involving children and adolescents were used to identify acceptable items and relevant dimensions. According to international guidelines the items were translated into languages of the participating countries to obtain a pilot instrument which was tested in each country by about 300 respondents and revised if necessary. Survey: National representative surveys using this freshly developed instrument were conducted in about 1800 children and adolescents as well as their parents per country. Reference data for each participating country are provided. Implementation: The data will be analysed European wide to provide the public and other European countries user-friendly guidelines, instrument manuals and public use files.

Es bestehen nun drei Versionen des Kidscreen-Fragebogens zur Erhebung der gesundheitsbezogenen Lebensqualität von Kindern und Jugendlichen, die eingesetzt werden können: Die Forschungsversion operationalisiert das Konstrukt differenziert für zehn Aspekte mittels 52 Items, die mittlere Version erfasst fünf Aspekte der HRQOL (27 Items), die Kurzversion (10 Items) misst die allgemeine gesundheitsbezogene Lebensqualität. Analoge Versionen bestehen für Fremdeinschätzungen durch die Eltern. Das Manual für die AnwenderInnen der deutschsprachigen Schweiz ist nun erhältlich, das internationale Manual ist in Vorbereitung.
