WELFAREPRIORITIES - Priorities, trade-offs and reform opportunities in European welfare politics

Ref. 20076

This is version 1.1 of this project.

Methods

Method description

Three quantitative public opinion surveys on social policy attitudes that include both experimental and observational parts. Round 1: 2018/2019 in eight countries (Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, United Kingdom, Ireland) Round 2: 2020 in three countries (Germany, Sweden, Spain) Round 3: 2021 in four countries (Germany, Sweden, Spain, United Kingdom) Respondents stem from Bilendi's online panel. Quotas for age and gender (crossed) as well as educational attainment ensure representativity to the countries' adult population in terms of these characteristics.

Method (instruments)

Population, unit of observation

For all surveys, the population of interest is the adult population living in the country. The unit of observation is the individual survey respondent.

Participant selection or sampling method (census, random sampling, other sampling method (specify))

Participants were drawn from Bilendi's (or its partners') panels. Random sampling was used within these panels. In addition, quotas for age and gender (crossed) as well as educational attainment ensure that the data are representative in terms of these characteristics.

Other significant comments

In rounds two (2020) and three (2021) of our survey, respondents from the first wave (2018/19) who were still part of the Bilendi panel were recontacted to participate in the survey. The data therefore have a panel component. In both rounds two and three, new respondents were then added to the sample to again meet the quotas for basic socio-structural factors, ensuring that the individual rounds can be used for cross-sectional analyses.
