Abstract

Though numerous peace-support projects have been realised by or in partnership with the private sector, little research on their involvement has been conducted to date; corresponding policy debates can scarcely be called evidence-based. Though comparison of case studies in South Asia, Central America and the Horn of Africa, this project seeks to improve the understanding of the advantages, disadvantages and determinants of corporate engagement in peace promotion, and to generate evidence-based recommendations for peace practitioners considering partnerships with the private sector. Between 2009 and 2013, research in and on the following country case studies will be conducted: Sri Lanka (PhD), Nepal (PhD), El Salvador, Sudan, and Northeast India (shorter case studies).
