Methods

Method description

Main sample: 3080 (3600 expected). Oversample: 991 immigrants. Three questionnaires were used: self-administered questionnaire, face-to-face questionnaire (CAPI) and life calendar. The face-to-face questionnaire was conducted by a specially trained interviewer. The interviews with 100 close relatives (project "linked lives") couldn't be conducted.

The main sample was randomly selected in the cantonal population records, and stratified by age (65 - 69; 70 - 74; 75 - 79; 80 - 84; 85 - 89; 90 and above) and sex, for a total of about 600 respondents in each canton, either community dwelling or living in nursing homes. Response rate: 33%.
