Five key areas (education, work and profession; health and sport; politics and civic duties; values and value orientation; capabilities and life perspectives) are examined in an interdisciplinary collaboration. The survey instrument was subjected to several pretests for the purpose of intensive quality tests. The survey method is a replicative survey in the form of a matrix design, which is carried out every four years. It was used for the first time in 2010/11. The data sets include information from around 40,000 young Swiss men who take part in the survey as part of their compulsory army recruitment. In addition, a sample of 2,400 young Swiss women are surveyed at the same time.
Collection procedure: standardized survey paper pencil
Collection units, population: quantitative
Selection procedure: Swiss men: full survey age 18-21; Women: representative supplementary sample (lump sample)
Number of examination units: Swiss men subject to levy (approx. 30,000) per assessment and a supplementary sample of 2,400 young Swiss women.
Research Design: Replicative Survey; two-year survey cycles every four years: 2010/2011, 2014/2015, 2018/2019, etc.
The survey of male young adults takes place in the six Swiss recruitment centers (RZ). The implementation of the data collection in the data center as well as that for the sample of young women is in the hands of approx. 200 "experts" from ch-x. The ch-x survey staff consists of volunteers, most of whom are recruited from the Swiss teaching staff.
The Federal Office of Information Technology and Telecommunications (BIT) reads in the data. The Institute for the Management and Economics of Education (IBB) is responsible for the data cleaning and YASS-publications under the guidance of Prof. Dr. St. G. Huber.
